Aussie ship, which located Commander Tomy, in Kochi

KOCHI: Australian Navy ShipHMAS Ballarat, which played a major role in locating and rendering medical assistance to CommanderAbhilash Tomyduring the search and rescue mission, is in Kochi on a five-day visit.
The commanding officer of HMAS Ballarat, Commander PaulAndrew Johnson, called on Rear Admiral RJ Nadkarni, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command (SNC), after arrival on Friday and interacted over professional subjects of common interest to both navies.
The SNC chief conveyed his gratitude for the assistance rendered by HMAS Ballarat for rendering medical assistance to Commander Tomy during the search and rescue mission coordinated by theRoyal Australian Navy. Tomy had suffered a back injury after his yacht was hit by a vicious storm across south Indian Ocean on September 21.
The HMAS Ballarat will depart forManamaon Tuesday.
