Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young is understood to have been racially abused by a Western Sydney Wanderers supporter during the club’s 2-2 draw in Mudgee on Saturday afternoon.
Fairfax Media understands an investigation is underway into allegations the supporter yelled racist remarks towards Young during the match, before being ejected from the Glen Willows Sporting Complex.
The Roar goalkeeper, whose ancestry is Sri Lankan, was heard responding to the allegedly racist taunt. Young was heard on camera making a stand and identifying the alleged perpetrator.
The supporter was immediately dealt with by security and kicked out of the stadium. A Football Federation Australia spokesman confirmed the matter was being investigated but would await a full security report before making comment on the incident.
