'Violent' man shot dead by police in hospital

A MAN has been shot dead by police after allegedly attacking an officer at a hospital in Ipswich, west of Brisbane.

It’s understood the man was in custody at the police watch house when he complained of feeling ill and needed to be taken to Ipswich Hospital for assessment last night.

While under guard at the hospital, it’s alleged the man became violent towards an officer before he was shot about 9pm.

The man was treated by medical staff but could not be saved and died from his injuries, police said.

One of the police officers involved in the altercation needed to be treated for facial injuries.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident on behalf of the State Coroner and will be assisted by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
