Borussia Dortmund ace Christian Pulisic has been told now is the ‘time for a change’ by former United States international Alexi Lalas.
As reported by Sportsmail last month, Chelsea look to be in pole position for the talented 20-year-old as the Blues push for a deal in January.
Now a mainstay in the Dortmund team, Lalas feels Pulisic has earned his chance to try his talents at another elite European side.
Chelsea target Christian Pulisic has been hailed as ‘one of the phenoms’ in world football
Lalas told Cowherd: ‘There are teams all over the world that would love to have Christian Pulisic right now.
‘I think he’s done a great job in going over to Germany, he’s done a great job at Borussia Dortmund.
‘But I think it’s time for a change right now for Christian Pulisic, and a change to an even higher profile team.’
The Borussia Dortmund winger is set to leave the club with his contract approaching expiry
The American-born winger, who stood out for his country against England recently at Wembley, is out of contract in 2020 and Dortmund have accepted they must cash in on him – having previously attempted to open contract negotiations.
Born: Pennsylvania, USA
Borussia Dortmund – 107 apps 15 goals
United States – 23 caps 9 goals
Having previously been valued at around £70million by the German club – that figure may now come down with his contract nearing its end – a big-money move to the Premier League naturally brings with it immense pressure to deliver.
But for Lalas, Pulisic is still improving and remains one of the ‘phenoms’ of world football.
‘[Pulisic] is one of the phenoms in the world, he just happens to be American,’ Lalas added.
‘There’s going to be pressure to win, and to deliver. He’s a very young player so he’s still getting better.
